Southern Pacific 4449 Steamed Up

x4449

Southern Pacific 4449 all steamed up and ready to go. It left the station in Northeast Minneapolis at 8:00 am 18 July, destination Chicago. Once it left the station, I got ahead of it and got a few more shots as it was passing the Jackson Street Roundhouse.

Coach In Decay

coachindecay2

Another one from our train museum outing. This coach is normally not on the typical visitor’s list of things to see. It’s in the cue to be restored, though likely only the steel frame underneath is salvageable. It may look ugly to most, but to me it’s a beauty, full of shapes and hues, and a long history to boot.

The photo was difficult to line up, trying to figure out which is the vertical. I finally decided the door at the end is what should be vertical. Still looks tilted to me, but if you line up a ruler with the right door frame you’ll see it’s vertical, or at least as close as I could get it. Our mind is so easily tricked when it comes to visuals.

Well not really. None of these trains have moved in years.

Heater Car 16

Another shot from the Jackson Street Roundhouse train museum. There is a little yellow in there, so does it qualify for the Yellow Theme Day?

Engine 559

Went to the Jackson Street Roundhouse train museum last Saturday with Mitchster, Dusty, and Teresa. A lot of fun. We wandered well beyond the areas normally accessible to the public, with the approval of the staff of course. Carrying serious camera gear (and gray hair and/or gray beards per Dusty) does sometimes get you a little extra access.
