‘The Lakes’ are one of the jewels of the Twin Cities area. Comprised of Lake of the Isles, Lake Calhoun, and Lake Harriet, they provide swimming beaches, sailing, fishing, band shell, picnic areas, trolley rides, and parks, practically in the middle of town. Surrounded by walk and bike paths, this area is very popular with residents and visitors alike. It also features some of the more interesting homes in town, many of them stylish and unique, some of them a bit retro. This one is from the eastern side of Lake of the Isles.
Taken a few months along Washington Avenue, this building is gone by now. Guess it was well overdue. Doubtful though it will sprout anything pretty as it’s located in an industrial area.
On another note, several new photobloggers have sprouted in the Twin Cities area. Nice to see. Their sites can be found on my local links. Mitchster, Dusty, and I are getting together at the Duplex Restaurant & Wine Bar at Hennepin and 25th this Friday at around 4:00, hang out on the porch and watch Friday madness on Hennepin. Bloggers and photobloggers swing on by if up for it. We’re easy to spot with all the camera gear.
Went down to the Mississippi near the Lake Street bridge looking for graffiti, but couldn’t find anything. A treacherous hike down the embankment, using tree roots and my tripod as stabilizers on the way down. Set up to get some shots of the Mississippi with the Lake Street bridge in the background. Along comes this cruiser just in time to add to the setting. Every now and then one gets lucky.
The farmers market down by Lyndale and Hennepin is on for the season. Held Saturdays and Sundays, you can get fresh vegetables, fruits, and plants. Right now much of it still comes out of crates from out of the country, but soon much of it will have originated in the US, and locally.
There’s also a variety of treats available, ranging from organic Espresso to brats. Brats for breakfast, loaded with peppers and onions! I doesn’t get any better than that. Just make sure you don’t end up with mustard on your camera’s control buttons like I did. It’s a hassle to clean off.
