Eagle Eye

Last Saturday I met up with Mitch and Rob at Hyde Park in Bloomington for the University of Minnesota’s Raptor Center’s bird release. Three birds were released, but getting a shot of them flying away is quite a challenge, even with a good IS telephoto lens. Fortunately there were other birds on exhibit, like this bald eagle. Rob has become quite the bird photographer. Check out his photos from the Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park.

Miss Duck

missduck

This duck laid in our front yard all weekend long, literally watching me replace the rear wheel seals on my truck, and brakes while I was at it. What a mess that was, but probably saved myself $700 worth of labor to put in $100 worth of parts.

Not sure what’s wrong with her, she’s missing feathers on the back of her head. Fed her some bread but then stopped, since it isn’t exactly good for them. But I figured she needed some carbs. Also put out a bowl of water, and she drank off and on for 5 minutes it seems.

Later in the day we thought she’d left. But we spotted her across the road in the neighbors yard, with a Mallard. Maybe she was just laying low over the weekend while he was looking for a nesting place.

I did put some thawed frozen peas under the tree, a bit more nutritious for ducks. But that’ll be it. They need to move on and do what ducks do.

Finally, something that gives a goose at least some hesitation.

Mississipi Challenge

Looks like this isn’t the first time this beaver has been at this. In fact there where several more trees nearly chewed through nearby, just in the last few days, one of them about ready to drop into the Mississippi.

The beaver who dared to dream.

Eyes

Leaving my camera laying around or set up on a tripod is always tempting for the junior photographer of the house. Sometimes I find photos on the memory card I know I didn’t take, like this one. She actually takes some pretty interesting pictures. Young minds are not bound by rules.
