This duck laid in our front yard all weekend long, literally watching me replace the rear wheel seals on my truck, and brakes while I was at it. What a mess that was, but probably saved myself $700 worth of labor to put in $100 worth of parts.
Not sure what’s wrong with her, she’s missing feathers on the back of her head. Fed her some bread but then stopped, since it isn’t exactly good for them. But I figured she needed some carbs. Also put out a bowl of water, and she drank off and on for 5 minutes it seems.
Later in the day we thought she’d left. But we spotted her across the road in the neighbors yard, with a Mallard. Maybe she was just laying low over the weekend while he was looking for a nesting place.
I did put some thawed frozen peas under the tree, a bit more nutritious for ducks. But that’ll be it. They need to move on and do what ducks do.

So cute..nice one
If she has been much mated, the feather loss could be accounted for.
It’s a good thing that she is wearing her “camo” just in case she is taking a break . . . the story enhances the picture here . . . I’d be curious and go back to check up on her. Well done!
Hi!
Great shot! Maybe she was looking for a good safe place to make a nest! Have a great day!!

Love it .. so sweet .. well captured .. the shot, not the duck LOL
We use to have a pair that nested by the old trees and in the weeds by the fence. 2 mallards and one female..Came back every year, very timid.Great photo!
