Foggy Bridge
After last weeks punishment on the Outer Banks I had to follow up with another self inflicted punishment this morning back here in Minneapolis. Went down to the Stone Arch Bridge (for the umteenth time) with temps around -20F. Two layers of jammies under my lined jeans, winter jacket over shirt over sweater over shirt, two pairs of socks, wool hat under jacket hood, and gloves. The layering worked, didn’t get cold at all. I did have to take my gloves off to change settings on the camera, and my fingers felt fine for a while so I kept on going without the gloves. Dumb move of course, before I knew my hands were ice cold. It just sneaks up on you. Feet turned into cold lumps too. Won’t happen again, got some snow mobile type boots.
Taking this shot I ran into another photog with some serious gear. First time I’ve seen a digital Hasselblad, and that lens looked like couple of grand.

For your feets try putting a pair, or two, of socks on and then a plastic bag like a bread bag. It will help hold in the body heat.
And the photo is wonderful. ‘~) Thanks for the extra effort.

I am not sure I could stand it now. Well I couldn’t as I am not supposed to go outside in cold weather. But it sure is a nice-looking photograph. With all the work it is almost like setting up a model for a photo shoot. It takes a lot of time and a lot more work than snapping the shutter.

I went out in it too. Hard to stay warm but harder to stay away from the bridge. :)

Beautiful shot. I love the inclusion of the branches as a dark contrast with the barely visible bridge.

Wow. I can’t begin to imagine what that kind of cold feels like. Superb photo. Hope you treated yourself to a nice warm toddy after that.

Nice photo. I noticed steam in Lake Superior, but didn’t get out soon enough and before I knew it the day was gone.

The payoff for your suffering in the brutal cold is this absolutely hauntingly beautiful shot here.

Well darn, Snapper said everything I was going to say so I’ll just ditto him. He’s a good one to copy I’ve learned! HA It really is an amazing shot and you shouldn’t have been out in that cold. IT”S DANGEROUS! Get yourself inside and stay there till it warms up in MN! When will that be April???? I would say this is one of your very best. Bravo indeed!

I guess the brave shall inherit the great comments,
and get the great shots. Impressive. I live the eerie feeling on it, and the foreground branch. Now about that 8×10…2 for the price of one?
