IDS Christmas Tree

Setting up a tripod in the IDS center quickly brings on the security guards. Apparently that’s not allowed. From what I’ve learned on the subject of photographer’s rights they have every right to prohibit photography within the IDS center, as it’s their property. But they choose to limit only tripod photography. I can respect that. On a whim I started another sub-domain, your-rights-as-photographer.twincityphotos.com.

Not the first one. I’ve started several on blogspot and then deleted them. Oddly though once you delete a blog on blogspot, you’d think that sub-domain becomes available for others, but it doesn’t. If you go back to the URL you’ll get a message ‘Sorry, the blog at blahblahblah.blogspot.com has been removed. This address is not available for new blogs.’ You’d think the sub-domain would be available for others once you’ve abandoned it.

    Keep going for it !!
I think it’s B as in B, S as in S, to NOT allow people to photograph whats public. Stupid.
But anyway, beautiful shot! I have a few if the tree also, but since I didn’t set up a tripod I wasn’t busted ;)

I’ll be interested to read about it. I’m not a huge photographer, but until everything that went on around the RNC, I thought you were pretty much free to photograph any public space, especially outdoors.

I can understand the tripod, as it can be a tripping hazard in this country of sue-happy lawyers. But you would think these places would like the free publicity. Who doesn’t want free publicity when the economy is sour?

This has become sorta a pet peeve of mine, because I’m starting to get annoyed by the frequent challenges? by random people and overzealous security on a power trip. The RNC was interesting in that in my opinion security overplayed their role on occasion. We (Mitchster, Slinger, and I) got ‘the look’ from security personnel on several occasions. And I remember Rob when we were at the light rail station some guy asking you about photographing and you politely explaining, which if you recall I felt we shouldn’t have to do.

I took my pet peeve post down for the time being as I’m collecting more info from the internets, but hope to have a summarized opinion in a few days. Not that I’m going to add new wisdoms to the topic, just something for me to exercise my rationale and comebacks and pluck it down for others interested.
