Foshay Night Reflection

Nov.02, 2008

Went on another photo shoot with some local photogs, Mitchster, Rob from Dusty Lens and his neighbour MB and son, Greg from View From the Tundra, Bob, and Matt from Tips from the Top Floor. We met in front of the Foshay Tower at 3 in the afternoon, and went up to the observation deck. Bob must have negotiated a group deal because we got up there for $25 total. I had trouble finding shots I liked, like last time I went up there by myself. I’m sure the others didn’t.

Next we walked up Nicollet Avenue to a parking ramp for some shots from an intermediate elevation. Check out this photo Bob got on the way there. Nice portrait. After 45 minutes or so we moved on. Bob took us up to his office (he works downtown) where we were able to get some great vantage points of sections of downtown Minneapolis. Next stop was the Lions Pub for a couple of beers, some food, and friendly conversation. After that, almost 8:00 pm, we slowly wandered back up Nicollet Avenue towards our cars, with many photo stops on the way.

A bunch of photogs with big tripods and expensive camera gear always get attention from passersby and this time was no exception. Someone asked us what we were taking pictures of, and Mitchster replied ‘UFOs’. It almost seemed like she believed him. Another group of ladies and gents thought we were celebrity hunting (not the first time that’s happened).

Next stop was the Stone Arch Bridge, always picturesque no matter what time of day. After a while though the wind was starting to take it’s toll on my enthusiasm, not to mention the need for a potty break with no potties in sight. Normally not a problem for a guy but I didn’t feel like whistling in a cold breeze.

Time flies when you’re out on a shoot with a bunch of photogs. I half-heartedly I threw out the word ‘Gasthof’ to see who’d bite, but no one did. Being 11:00 pm we broke up. Short while after that I was in my jammies looking at the day’s photos on my laptop, having a beer, and not paying attention to The Shining on the telly except the scary parts.

Always a good time out photo shooting with you guys. I’m still culling my batch of pics. Going to take some time.

So sorry I had to miss the shoot. It sounds like so much fun.
For the future, when nature calls by the Stone Arch Bridge, isn’t there still a port-O-potty at one end?
Oh, and I love the Mitchster’s response about UFO’s. He is a funny guy.
    What’s gasthof?

You’re right. I didn’t notice one though. Wonder if they’re seasonal, not that it’s too cold yet. On the Gasthof was thinking of gemutlichkeit.
