Aquatennial Fireworks

Jul.28, 2008

These didn’t turn out as I had hoped. For one thing the launching point appears to not have been from the 3rd Avenue bridge, putting all the fireworks in front of a brightly light building, and the lack of any breeze caused the smoke to hang around forever. I also used in-camera noise reduction, which essentially disables the camera for the same amount of time after each shot as the shot was long in the first place. Next time I’m going to pluck myself down on the Stone Arch bridge early evening and sweat in the sun with the rest of them, and have some fun.

Still, great photos of the fireworks. Wish I wuld have atteended this event.

so, the in-camera noise reduction should not be used for night photography?

No on the contrary, night photography would be what you’d want to use noise reduction for. It’s just that it was slowing me down in a situation where you want to be taking as many shots as you can, hoping to catch a few good ones. I haven’t done a thorough comparison yet between the 4th and aqua shots to tell how well it works.
