Staying In Touch

Another Cairo shot from a balcony at my hotel room. Judging by the number of satellite dishes Egyptians probably know a lot more about world affairs than one would think.
Kalaloch

This photo was taken on a Vacation a few years back. Very long drive. First leg Minneapolis to Butt Montana, second leg to Olympic National Park in Washington. A truly amazing place. There are several campgrounds in the park, Kalaloch being one of them, right on the beach. In the morning thick banks of fog roll through the campground, and it’s actually quite easy to get a shot like this. Anyone who’s ever played one of the earlier virtual reality computer games Myst would immediately recognize where the creators got their ideas from for the background settings, as there are many small forested islands with steep slopes protruding several hundred feet up just a few hundred yards from shore. The park gets so much rain during the winter season there is actually a rain forest, the only one in the USA.
Bokeh

Saturday morning in my back yard, I got a few shots of this lovely flower between annoying wind gusts as the sun was rising. Having the sun from the back provides a nice see through effect showing the delicate structure of the bells. Note the nice bokeh in the background from the wide aperture setting on my new 17-40mm f/4L USM Canon lens.
Swamp

On the way back from camp and after driving through a torrential downpour, I pulled off I35 onto a ’scenic’ route looking for some good shots. Nothing scenic, at least for the first 10 miles. Turned around and on the way back I pulled of onto a dirt road just for the heck of it. Found this lovely Minnesota swamp of the side of the road just as the sun was breaking out.
